@cat555

thank you for the explanation I find it vaccinating, i do have a big screen in the house it is like the cinema but really without the extra people

i got somthing interesting in the mail dont know if anyone of you guys known this i did not

The History of the Middle Finger:
Well, now......here's something I never knew before, and now that I
know it, I feel compelled to send it on to my more intelligent friends
in the hope that they, too, will feel edified. Isn't history more fun
when you know something about it?

Before the Battle of Agincourt in 1415, the French, anticipating
victory over the English, proposed to cut off the middle finger of all
captured English soldiers. Without the middle finger it would be
impossible to draw the renowned English longbow and therefore they would
be incapable of fighting in the future. This famous English longbow was
made of the native English Yew tree, and the act of drawing the longbow
was known as 'plucking the yew' (or 'pluck yew').

Much to the bewilderment of the French, the English won a major upset
and began mocking the French by waving their middle fingers at the
defeated French, saying, See, we can still pluck yew! Since 'pluck yew'
is rather difficult to say, the difficult consonant cluster at the
beginning has gradually changed to a labiodentals fricative 'F'(WHAT?),
and thus the words often used in conjunction with the one-finger-salute!
It is also because of the pheasant feathers on the arrows used with the
longbow that the symbolic gesture is known as 'giving the bird.'

IT IS STILL AN APPROPRIATE SALUTE TO THE FRENCH TODAY!

And yew thought yew knew every plucking thing.

thanks a lot, HF, now i know more.

If you salute someone here like this (preferable in the car) he will become very upset, chase you and threaten you. Actually it is prohibited by law to greet someone like this - if you get caught.

i know and you never now if this person has a gun so it should not be used

Something funny

A firefighter was working on the engine outside the station, when he noticed a little girl nearby in a little red wagon with little ladders hung off the sides, and a garden hose tightly coiled in the middle.

The girl was wearing a firefighters helmet. The wagon was being pulled by her dog and her cat.

The firefighter walked over to take a closer look. 'That sure is a nice fire truck,' the firefighter said with admiration.

'Thanks,' the girl replied.

The firefighter looked a little closer. The fireman noticed the girl had tied the wagon to her dog's collar and to the cat's testicles.

'Little partner,' the firefighter said, 'I don't want to tell you how to run your rig, but if you were to tie that rope around the cat's collar, I think you could go faster.'

The little girl replied thoughtfully, 'You're probably right, but then I wouldn't have a siren.'

AA - this was not meant as special talk - it`s just because nobody else is partaking and i like to talk in English.

And i definitely need training - just now i wanted to book a hotelroom in Ljubljana (i am away till the end of the week) and the officer at the hotline wanted to connect me with a German speaking employee - my English was too poor.

Sorry for that - the wife of Mr. Exter tried to install a global forum and i was very happy about this - but somehow it was not blessed with success.

Hi, Folks.

In order to stay right on schedule I'd like to suggest to meet Wednesday, July 29th, 18:00 at the Lahmer Esel again. What do you think of buying the Süddeutsche Zeitung two days before (Monday, 2009-07-27)? That very issue will contain a special supplement with reports published in The New York Times (in English, of course). We might discuss a few of these reports ...

Hi toigether,

I am back again and really relaxed (still) nice to read that you made it to the Turm Palast - anyway, it seems not all of you enjoyed it.
I will step in on 29 th July at the Niederursel (safes my from cooking dinner after a long day working :-) ) and think it is a good idea to read and discuss together - but somehow I would love to read and discuss something not so serious - but will - if you all deside on the abstracts from NYT - get them and hopefully am a little prepared....
Nice to read that you are well again, Volker.

A nice weekend to everybody.

Hallo to all,

what do you think about a new location for our next meeting on july, 29.?
My suggestion "Mosebach", Sandweg 29, it's near to undergroundstations Merianplatz or Zoo. If you agree with Volker or I can ask for a reservation. Volker???

http://www.max.de/cityguide/city/frankf ... ebach.html

In future we could fix the second wednesday in a month for "Let's talk"-meetings - this means a longer distance between the two regular terms.

Greetings, Angelika

Hi, all. just returned from Munich and yes, i will come.

Problem is - today i will not get a Süddeutsche Zeitung - tomorrow i have to work as usual, maybe they have a spare "old" issue at the metro station. Could you please repeat which article to prepare?

Till then - heidrun

Cat,
why didn't you say that you were in Munich? I would have been happy to invite you for a cup of coffee.

Hi Tosca - i am filled with regret right now - had i only thought of it.

But it was on very short notice and just two days - Saturday to and Sunday back. But a cup of coffee would have been nice. Next time i will tell you - did not think of you as being in Munich- too occupied with other things the last time and ask the same from you should you visit Frankfurt at any time.

But it is a very pretty photo you have there.

liebe Grüße!
